September shifts local racing into high gear!

With the Zilker Relays (see August 19th blog) set to kick off the fall racing season, September is jam packed with great races. From old classics to new adventures, there’s lots to choose from as the weather (hopefully) begins to cool off a bit. Here’s sneak peek at upcoming races.

Talk about a Central Texas classic! The Gruene Hall 5K/10K on Saturday September 9 at 7:45 a.m. has been around for longer than anyone can remember. This scenic race starts and finish right in front of the historic Gruene Hall and follows a rolling course through beautiful neighborhoods surrounding this picturesque community.

As Buda has grown in size, so has its running scene. The Jaguar Jog 5K/10K, set for Saturday September 16 at 8:00 a.m. is a prime example. Starting and finishing at the Moe and Gene Johnson High School, the course is not without hills. Note: bring your pooch if you want, as the race is “dog friendly.”

The CASA Superhero Run 5K on Sunday, September 17 at 7:00 a.m. at the Circuit of the Americas racetrack serves as the opening race for the 2023 Austin Distance Challenge. And if you’ve never been out to the Circuit of the Americas, this is your chance to get up close and personal with it!

Fall is the time for cross-country, and If you’re up for a true cross-country run, the Jameson 5K at Southwestern on Saturday, September 23 at 8:00 a.m. is an oldie but goodie. Now in its 23rd year, the trail race uses the cross-country course with the start / finish line down below the football field on Southwestern University’s in Georgetown.

The Lockhart Kiwanis 5K Stampede’s 17th edition will take place on September 30 at 8:15 a.m. in Lockhart, adjacent to the First Lockhart Baptist Church and features a certified USATF “mainly flat” course.

With its slightly different distance—3.3 miles—and starting time 8:03 a.m., the Oatmeal Festival 3.3-mile RUN for your OATS in downtown Bertram tops the list for longevity. Now celebrating its 46th year, the all-day Oatmeal Festival features a parade, softball tournament, live music, food and vendors!
