A few weeks ago, we gave you  an update on the elite field for the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon presented by Under Armour (set for February 17, 2019), focusing on the depth of the women’s field, which includes Olympic Trials qualifier Heather Lieberg (2:40:38);  Carter Norbo (2:48:35, 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon); Alexandra Conway, (2:51:39 2018 Hartford Marathon); Anita Perez (2:39:33, 2018 Grandma’s Marathon); and Beth Marzigliano (2:58:58 for third place at the Run for the Red Marathon). Note: Defending champ Allison Macsas is running the half marathon this year, not the full. Before we move on to give you an update on the men’s field, there’s a recent addition to the women’s field.

Patrick Rizzo set his personal best in the marathon, a 2:13:42 in Houston in 2012. He is now entered in the 2019 Austin Marathon.

Khrystyna Bohomiahkova is a Ukrainian runner who won the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon in 2:48:45 last October and clocked a 2:46:40 at 2018 Belfast City Marathon. She is now entered to run the Austin Marathon.

It looks like the men’s field will have quite a bit of depth as well. Three new additions now joining Mizael Carrera (2:19:29 at the 2017 New York Marathon); Sphamandla Nyembe (2017 Woodlands Marathon Champ (2:21:26); Daniel Bishop (2:26:27at 2018 Austin Marathon); and Jameson Mora, (2020 Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifier 2:15:44 PR) are listed below.

Patrick Rizzo likes Texas: he set his personal best in the marathon, running 2:13:42 in Houston in 2012. A 2:17:27 at the California International Marathon a year ago shows he’s still in darn good shape. The former North Central College Illinois) seven-time All-American in cross-country and track and field runner, Rizzo now lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Arturs Bareikis, a Latvian runner, runs a lot of marathons. In 2017 he ran seven of them> A three-month spree saw him winning the Shawnee Marathon (Illinois) in October, placing second at the Madison Marathon (Wisconsin) in 2:23:15 in November, and again taking second at Rocket City Marathon (Alabama) in 2:32:23 in December.

Closer to home, Mitchell Germann was a high-school standout at Liberty Hill, consistently leading his cross country team, and placing third in the 2012 state meet. One of the younger marathoners at 22, Germann recently won the extremely hilly Decker Challenge Half Marathon in 1:16:11.
